Mens Footwear Designer – West Yorkshire

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced men’s footwear designer to join our client at an exciting point in its evolution to join our small team near Leeds city centre to work with both branded and own label footwear.

We are looking for a person who:

– has creative yet commercial eye to design
-understands market, current trends and brand identity
-has great hand drawing skills and presentation skills.
-has ability to design styles according to the brief and design direction.
-understands footwear construction, materials and can develop styles by completing technical packs, specifications, check pullovers and liaise with Far East factories. Knowledge of designing outsoles and components is a plus.
-has excellent computer skills on Apple Mac platform, Adobe Creative Suite 2018 (particularly Adobe Illustrator) and Microsoft Office.
-has passion for sport fashion and sneakers, experience designing and developing footwear for this market is a plus.
-is very organised, self-motivated and able to work under tight timelines.
-is willing to travel in UK and abroad a few times a year.

Interest and experience for product photography and photo editing skills advantageous.
Most importantly, contributing to the positive atmosphere in the office, you will be a true team player and willing to jump into the challenges and adapt in ever changing situations at this busy design department and quick to learn new skills and keen to take ownership in design, development and ad hoc office tasks.

Import Merchandiser -Job Description

Liaising with both suppliers and customers.
Experience with liaising with the Far East is essential.
Raising purchase orders, packaging / label orders (care labels, brand labels, price labelling) and dispatching to our suppliers Maintaining the critical path.
An in depth knowledge of the critical path is essential.
The merchandiser will be responsible for chasing in lab dips, print strike offs, bulk fabric and sample submissions ( sealer samples /pre-production samples / production samples)
Liaising with the clients shipping and deliveries department, ensuring that goods arrive are processed and are delivered on time

Head Of Technical – South Manchester

ROLE OVERVIEW

To take responsibility for the consistent execution of quality product from technical specification stage through to finished garments. You will have responsibility for all areas of garment quality control including the analysis of returns in order to continually improve product fit. The design and product are always produced with great attention to detail and the person filling this role will be required to produce garments reflective of this and continue in the improvement in the quality and consistency of product. You will be managing a team of 2 and have extensive technical skills across all apparel areas and accessories – a background in pattern cutting would be useful as would some expertise in knitwear.

ROLE IN DETAIL

• Lead the team and work with design to establish workable, customer-focussed standards of fit, blocks and make standards.
• Manage the day-to-day workload of the department, planning workloads effectively to meet key company milestones within the critical path.
• Work closely with the design team by way of participating in design handovers in order to produce right first-time tech packs and ultimately right first time proto’s
• Review and analyse returns information and make suggestions for improvements that is fed back into the design and production process in order to reduce company returns rate.
• Manage in house and freelance technicians in preparing tech packs for samples for sending to suppliers and take accurate sample measurements.
• Responsible for ensuring tech packs for garment are produced to the required standard and will produce excellent shape, fit and quality.
• Ensure detailed specification sheets are issued after each proto fit with garment measurements and construction techniques and completed by each team member
• Responsible for ensuring all requests for proto and photo samples are made in a timely manner according to the critical path and key timelines
• Responsible for ensuring all proto and photo samples are delivered on time in order to meet key company meetings
• Manage the pre-production process, through monitoring garment / product developments to critical path dead- lines.
• Maintain garment specification sheets and assess / comment on prototypes samples, communicating feedback to external contacts.
• Work closely with the Sourcing and Merchandise team and report on vendor delivery and quality performance.
• Support the suppliers during the bulk manufacturing process, fit and comment on production grades.
• Ensure all photo samples are reviewed and measured and any issues highlighted to Head of Sourcing before handing over to the shoot team.
• Ensure shipment samples are received and reviewed and then approved to supplier before final shipment of goods.
• Support where required any remedial re processing.
• Ensure good communication between your department and copywriter/marketing on garment information
• Support a culture of good communication and co-operation
• Travel to sourcing bases to meet and work with suppliers
• Inspire and encourage a strong team ethic

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Excellent understanding of the brand: its product and design aesthetic.
• To have a passion for product quality and consistency and to relentlessly pursue this
• An understanding of fashion trends and influences
• Extensive experience in Ladies woven tailoring, knitwear and soft separates
• Knowledge of accessories would be an advantage.
• Creative pattern cutter who can also drape on the stand
• Knowledge of electronic pattern cutting systems
• Appreciation of yarn qualities knitted structures and woven/printed textile fabrications.
• Understanding of product construction and garment spec generation.
• Good numeric skills for taking measurements and making calculations.
• Good listening skills to clearly interpret the wishes of designers.
• An understanding of how different garments are constructed.
• The ability to be focused and pay attention to detail.
• Patience for working with fine measurements.
• The ability to take the initiative and manage a larger team.

ROLE IN DETAIL

Work with the design team and Creative Director/Head of Sourcing on each product category on a day to day basis
Ensure that the design message and commercial product is being delivered to the requirements of Design and Head of Sourcing and Creative Director
Strong critical path management ensuring PD benchmarks and deadlines are met in line with the brand calendar, and design development ratio’s and requirements.

Developing product from concept through to production sign off.

• Work closely with the design team to ensure design brief is being met.
• Work closely with external vendors to ensure the highest standards are achieved in line with brand identity and product margins.
• Following carefully to a precise critical path; both internally with, fabric and design as well as with vendors to ensure prototypes and samples are achieved on time and within budget.
• Develop and find solutions to support design vision, whilst achieving targets. An understanding of fabric along with strong negotiation skills.
• Creation of sample packs and technical specs for all new samples. Strong understanding of technical construction is vital, compiling detailed construction comments, fabric and finishing details lab dips, trims, graphics and bulk fabrics.

• Liaising with suppliers on a day to day basis, ensuring product is developed correctly.

Our client currently has a new vacancy for a Junior GT/QC with approx 18 months plus experience.

You will be working on Mens / Boys – Autumn / Winter – Outerwear Jackets and Spring / Summer Denim / shorts / trousers

Working closely with merchandiser/ design teams, as well as MD on the menswear Department.

Creating development specs at the beginning of each season from original samples or CADS

Measuring samples at first fit / PP / production sample stages

Conducting In house fit sessions.

Sending fit comments and amended specs to the factories

Responsible for your own fit comments / pattern solutions and advice to factories to maintain a good quality/ standard.

Advise factory of basic test requirements per style ie Base / bulk / zip tests.

Checking & approving Care label layouts

Action in house wash tests if necessary

Assessing bulk inspection reports from our China office

FACTORY MANAGER

Factory managers oversee the workers and the equipment they operate on the factory floor. They are responsible for contributing to and carrying out production strategy decisions. Our client is looking for an energetic experienced factory manager or a supervisor looking to step to this role. You must have experience of setting up a small factory from purchasing equipment to employing and training machinists. You will work closely with the Directors and customers as well as management of the day to day issues on the factory floor. You must have experience of working with Lycra stretch fabrics for the sports, dance and leisurewear industry.

REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for an entrepreneurial individual who is very driven and a problem solver! with an analytical mind and a strong attention to detail. You will have expertise in the Fabric, Equipment and production process, in addition you will be proficient with spreadsheets to analyse production data and create reports to be presented to decision makers as well as be ready to demonstrate and fix any machinery as needed.
