Assistant Garment Technologist

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Garment Technologist to join our growing team. This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a few years of experience in garment technology who is ready to take the next step in their career. You’ll work closely with the Senior Product Technologists and the greater team to help bring our products to life — from development through to production — ensuring fit, quality, and construction meet our brands high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the senior product developer across multiple categories.
  • Participate in fit sessions and support in analysing fit, construction, and workmanship.
  • Communicate clear and accurate fit and construction comments to suppliers and factories.
  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date tech packs, size specifications, and construction details.
  • Liaise with suppliers on testing requirements and review basic test reports (e.g. fabric performance, wash testing).
  • Help track sample development against the critical path to ensure timely approvals.
  • Maintain consistent product quality and fit across ranges.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2–3 years of experience in a garment technology or technical development role.
  • Solid understanding of garment construction and manufacturing processes.
  • Confident in conducting fit sessions and providing technical feedback.
  • Experience working with tech packs and size specifications.
  • Familiar with fabric types and their basic performance standards.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to manage workload and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient in Excel.

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Garment Technology, Fashion Technology or a related field.
  • Experience working with offshore suppliers or factories.

Buyer

Location: Manchester City Centre. Office Based.

Reports To: Head of Buying & Merchandising 

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Job Purpose:

To source, select, and manage a commercially viable fashion product range that aligns with brand identity, customer demand, and seasonal trends. The Fashion Buyer is responsible for driving sales and profitability by working collaboratively with suppliers, designers, merchandisers, and marketing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Selection & Development

Identify and select products that meet market demand, brand strategy, and margin requirements.
Work closely with the design and development teams to create exclusive product lines or adapt trends to suit the target customer. Source new suppliers and negotiate best prices, terms, and lead times.

Trend Analysis & Market Research

Monitor fashion trends, street style, influencer movements, and competitor activity. Attend trade shows, fashion weeks, buying trips, and regular retail comp shops.

Supplier & Vendor Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturers. Ensure suppliers meet quality, ethical, and sustainability standards. Negotiate cost prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules.

Financial Planning & Stock Management

Work with the merchandising team to plan ranges within budget and achieve sales, margin, and stock turn targets. Monitor sales performance, identify bestsellers/slow movers, and take action to optimise range accordingly. Support markdown and promotional strategies based on trading performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate with design, merchandising, e-commerce, and marketing teams to launch and promote collections. Ensure alignment between product range, brand positioning, and customer expectations.

Person Specification:

Essential Skills & Experience:

Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a buying role, ideally within a fashion or apparel business. Strong commercial awareness and knowledge of UK fashion retail landscape.
Proven track record of selecting trend-led ranges that perform commercially.
Skilled in supplier negotiation and relationship management.

Confident working with financial data and trading KPIs. Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)

Position Overview

The Senior Designer will create innovative, trend-driven collections for multiple private label accounts, ensuring alignment with each customer’s brand DNA and market needs. This role requires strong creative vision, fabric expertise, and the ability to translate global trends into commercially successful products for the North American market.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Design

  • Design seasonal collections tailored to private label accounts, from concept through to final sample.
  • Interpret customer briefs and brand guidelines to deliver relevant, on-trend designs.
  • Create detailed CADs and technical packs for development.

Trend & Market Research

  • Monitor global fashion trends, color palettes, fabrics, and silhouettes.
  • Research and analyse North American retail trends and competitors.
  • Attend trade shows, fabric markets, and relevant industry events.

Fabric & Material Sourcing

  • Select fabrics, trims, and materials to suit customer needs and price points.
  • Work with suppliers to source innovative and cost-effective options.

Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with factories to ensure accurate samples and timely delivery.

Quality & Execution

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional fashion design experience, preferably in fast fashion or private label.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing commercial, trend-driven womenswear for North America.
  • Excellent knowledge of fabrics, textiles, and trims.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction and production processes.
  • Able to manage multiple accounts, deadlines, and fast turnarounds.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with overseas suppliers and global manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of 3D design tools and digital sampling.
  • Familiarity with North American retail buying cycles and calendars.
