Garment Technologist – 20 hours a week

Job Overview:

Manchester Central

Supporting Design, Sales & Merchandising Team through all stages of product development, from design to manufacture.  As a Garment Technologist you are required to provide comment on CAD drawings from Design Team, oversee the chosen fabric & accessories, sizing, fitting, testing and safety compliance matters of the pre-production garments to ensure full visibility of product at the initial stage.  Other responsibilities will include analysing product returns & faults. 

Carry out a range of technical, investigative and quality control work on all clothing, textiles & accessories, ensure products perform to specifications.  Work closely with Designer, Merchandiser, Sales & Manufacturer to improve quality & production efficiency and liaise with those involved in the production process.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee CAD drawings, assist on technical specs to be sent to factories.  All technical information will need to be kept up to date & all necessary alternations are made following reviews by customers;
  • Before sampling, provide advice on specs;
  • Liaise with designers, adapt designs to suit production methods, advice on fabrics & accessories, undertake quality evaluations of materials, ensure the correct garment construction methods to be used;
  • Check samples throughout development process, ensure samples perform to specs;
  • Keep up to date with technical innovations. The selection of materials we work with is wide, including natural & synthetic textiles – cotton, linen, metals & plastics;
  • Ensure quality in areas such as strength, durability, colourfastness and water & chemical resistance;
  • Work with internal term to analyse / resolve fabric issues;
  • Work with Design Team to create size specs for sampling & costings;
  • Oversee fabric testing & sizing by attending all internal fit samples, identify & reflect findings/issues to Designer/Merchandiser & update factories overseas, provide update on specs.  Ensure relevant stakeholder understands what you want to achieve;
  • Check quality of the final product & responding to product queries, including complaints from clients & customers;
  • Carry out technical investigative work to ensure product is of the best standard;
  • Ensure Design/Merchandiser’s critical path data is managed & met on time;
  • Be the key contact point for both clients & factories to make sure all samples & products are made as specs;
  • Request & approve test reports for all products;
  • Assist Designer/Merchandiser for in-house testing.

Garment Technologist / QC

Manchester – c£21k

Our client is a large successful supplier of multi product to the global market.

Working closely with merchandiser/ design teams, as well as MD on the Menswear Department.   

Creating development specs at the beginning of each season from original samples or CADS

Measuring samples at first fit / PP / production sample stages

Conducting In house fit sessions. 

Sending fit comments and amended specs to the factories

Responsible for your own fit comments / pattern solutions and advice to factories to maintain a good quality/ standard. 

Advise factory of basic test requirements per style ie Base / bulk / zip tests.  

Checking & approving Care label layouts 

Action in house wash tests if necessary

Assessing bulk inspection reports from our China office

Making commercial decisions on bulk quality issues

UK warehouse checks on orders if & when needed

Product Developer

Cheshire – Salary dependant on experience

Approx 3 to 4 years experience in a similar role

To manage the daily and seasonal Product Development and Order Management requirements for the bespoke product ranges of the business. To achieve on time delivery of samples and bulk orders to the required standards for the business in the timelines set out and using the control measures in place, ensuring that all products and customer orders are developed and produced to the correct specification in line with the requirements of the business. 

Product Development: 

To work with Design Team to create size specs and planning how new garments will be made up by producing initial and graded size charts for sampling & costings. 

Identifying key issues in garment construction, creating and implementing solutions to problems and challenges. 

Conducting fit sessions in-house, balancing speed and quality; making commercial decisions with confidence; owning the fitting process and inspiring trust and confidence from colleagues and suppliers 

Manage all problem solving arising during the development process.

Working with designers and factories effectively during development of all products.

Ensuring all samples are to design and size specification, fit correctly and delivered on time.

Production Management Control: 

Co-ordinating through critical Path plans and WIP reports, for the delivery of product from initial order stage to bulk despatch from factories. 

Tracking of goods within factories to maintain lead times and quality standards. 

Checking the order packs before work commences. 

Update the Head or Sourcing and Development regularly on QC and 

Bulk order status. 

Successfully build and maintain relationships with suppliers. 

Working with factories to ensure 100% correct production and on-time delivery. 


All administration to be of a high standard and to be constantly updated. 

On an ongoing basis, be responsible for the accuracy of all development procedures, systems and administration from nominated factories.

Import Merchandiser – Manchester

Import Merchandiser – Description

Liaising with both suppliers and customers.

Experience with liaising with the Far East is essential.

Raising purchase orders, packaging / label orders.

Maintaining the critical path.

An in depth knowledge of the critical path is essential. The merchandiser will be responsible for chasing in lab dips, print strike offs, bulk fabric and sample submissions.

Negotiating Prices

Attending customer meeting when required.

Import Merchandiser – Experience

In order to be successful, you must have at least 3 years experience as a merchandiser or similar role within an importer and used to working with excel spreadsheets and maintaining critical information databases. Excellent communication skills and number literacy are also essential within this role. 

Working in a fast paced office and liaising with internal departments and teams on a daily basis as well as buyers and factories.

• Reporting to Director and liaising with other Account Managers / Designers, you will manage your own work load to ensure sales and revenue targets are exceeded.
